Something we can all do when it comes to making a positive health choice all year round is a very simple one: Drink more water. When we’re 100% hydrated, we’re much more likely to be on top of our game – mentally, physically and emotionally.
This is something that Highland Spring are keen to encourage, especially when research shows that 66% of Brits don’t feel they always drink enough water on a daily basis. Sounds mad when it’s such an easy habit to incorporate into everyday life and helps you to feel on form.
The Scottish supplier of bottled water challenged me to share my simple, tasty ideas to stay hydrated. This is something I’m even more conscious of now that I’m pregnant – it’s one of the key things to do to stay healthy. To be honest I’ve never been the biggest fan of plain water, rather I prefer to drink it either with sugar-free diluted squash or a herbal tea. Because I’ve cut caffeine out of my diet this has spurred me on to find other creative ways to drink it!
Here are some of my top ways of serving the natural water from Scotland’s Ochil Hills:
ZINGY REFRESHER
One of my favourite things to add to still water is lemon and orange slices plus chunks of fresh ginger for a zingy, zesty refreshing drink. A great boost of vitamin C plus ginger is amazing for combating nausea, boasts anti-inflammatory properties and can help to lower blood sugar and cholesterol levels.
ON THE GO
Plain and simple, when I’m out and about I like to keep a handy flip-lid bottle of Highland Spring water with me at all times (I always chill it beforehand!). On an average day I cover at least 5 miles walking plus extra general activity, so it’s important I keep my water consumption up.
SUMMER SPRITZER
If you’re a fizzy drink fan but want to avoid sweeteners or sugar, try this twist using sparkling water: Add slices of cucumber, chunks of fresh strawberries and a few sprigs of mint for a delicious summer inspired combination. Think Pimm’s but without the alcohol – ideal served at a garden party or alongside a picnic.
These are just a few ideas to get you going, the beauty of drinking water is that it’s totally up to you how you like it, the fun part is experimenting! Thanks to Highland Spring for supplying me with a month’s worth of still and sparkling water to keep Bump and I hydrated 🙂
