One thing I love about being a blogger in Manchester is its strong sense of community; one that is supportive, inspiring, fun and driven by people’s passions in different industries. I can’t thank my good friend and fellow mum Holly enough for setting up WeBlogMCR (which has now evolved into WeBlogNorth – exciting times!) for starting this network up, and for hosting the first inaugural Northern Blog Awards on Saturday 16th September.
Championing blogger talent in the North
Over 200 bloggers, content creators and online influencers came together for a night of glitz and glamour at The Principle, a stunning venue for the ceremony which saw 29 winners across 25 categories including beauty, fashion, health and parenting – more of that in a minute. Holly worked incredibly hard to make sure the night offered everything from a red carpet entrance, brand sponsorship, fun photo opportunities (a blogger’s dream!), a live band and DJ, delicious 3-course dinner and amazing goody bags.
For me, the enjoyment really came from bringing people together under one roof who devote their time to writing about and photographing their hobbies and interests – and being recognised for it. Usually big awards like this are very London-centric so it was brilliant to celebrate talent up here for a change. The night was a chance to get properly dressed up, enjoy a glass of Prosecco (or 4…), meet people I follow on social media, catch up with friends and get involved in the brand areas.
And the winner is…
I was over the moon to be shortlisted for Best Healthy Food & Eating Blog amongst some other fantastic bloggers so when it came to the announcement I really didn’t expect to win but guess what…I WON! What an honour!! It was the first one to be announced by Key 103’s Darryl Morris and I was so taken aback, when I got on stage I wasn’t sure what to say other than THANK YOU! To everyone who voted for me, who has supported my blog along the way and also to Holly for putting on such a spectacular night.
With so much buzz (at one point #NBAs17 was trending on Twitter, woop!) and excitement surrounding the event, I know that a lot of people – myself included – are already looking forward to next year’s, even though the bar has already been set pretty high. It was a pleasure to be part of the ‘Secret Seven’ group (myself, Vicki, Katie, Georgie, Kat and Fiona), helping Holly in the run-up to the night and I’m excited to see what can be achieved for the next one. Going forwards the NBA’s and WeBlogNorth is only going to get bigger and better!
A huge well done to the other winners and thank you to Christy for gifting us (the Secret Seven) robes for getting ready, all of the brands who were involved in the goody bags, and The Vain Photographer for the photos above 🙂
